<description>”This work trace encounters, absences, and fragments of lives. Working primarily with analog photography, I’m interested in the space between presence and disappearance, and in the ways people inhabit places, relationships, and moments in time. The current three projects form a single inward trajectory, from the self, outward to the world, and finally toward others. Yet each arrives at the same question:&#38;nbsp;Who is looking at us while we are looking at others?”

Dimitar Nikolaev is a Bulgarian photographer based in Zurich, Switzerland, whose work centers on long-term projects developed primarily through analog photography.
His practice spans through three bodies of work: Fragmente des Lebens (2016–), The Fragrant Harbour (Hong Kong, 2017–2018), and Dear, (2012–). Together, the projects examine the shifting relationship between memory, place, and human presence while approaching a recurring question.
Alongside his photographic expression, Nikolaev works internationally in design direction and conceptual development for global brand environments. The dialogue between photography and design informs his approach to seeing, where observation becomes a way of understanding both places and people.
